RF, Electro-Optic & Semiconductor Materials Research

BerrieHill Research Division of ARA is at the forefront of advanced material research that helps improve the capabilities of devices, systems and sensors used in aircraft, ships and ground-based vehicles or facilities.

The company’s 2,000-sq.-ft. electronic materials facility is housed within The Ohio State University ElectroScience Laboratory in Columbus, Ohio, where it has access to important university facilities and test equipment.


Our material research provides answers to questions like:
  • How does a material behave when hit by RF energy? Does the material absorb the RF energy, redirect it, reflect it?
  • What materials can be used to make antenna designs lighter or smaller?
  • How does the plastic material respond when the antenna is transmitting or receiving?
  • What are the RF material characteristics required for a particular antenna design or test body design? 
  • What materials can effectively control the light path through a sensor?

Our staff there performs critical research, measurement and testing that aids in the development of advanced electro-optic and semiconductor materials.

ARA-BerrieHill projects include the testing and measurement of radar-absorbing materials, used in low observability, antenna design, test bodies and communications applications.

In Dayton, ARA-BerrieHill is working to improve the measurement and inspection of electromagnetic materials using robotic systems.
