Paul Zidek, Group Leader, Advanced Antennas & Radomes

M.S. Electrical Engineering, University of Dayton

B.S. Electrical Engineering, Ohio State University

Paul coordinates and manages BerrieHill Research Division of ARA’s antenna technology work at its Lafayette, Colorado, location.  His background includes the design and development of antennas, antenna arrays, radomes, frequency selective surfaces (FSS), RF circuits, and low observable structures amenable to a variety of platforms and applications.

He has designed a number of different conformal, wide-band antenna array apertures to accommodate both linear and circular polarizations, as well as high-efficiency and power-handling requirements. His expertise spans both the theoretical and experimental, passive and active aspects of antenna technologies. His experience also includes antenna-related manufacturing and test processes.

Some of the areas where Paul has acted in a lead technical role include the development of the:

  • U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Airborne Electronic Attack Core Component Jammer Array
  • AFRL TACSAT II Common Data Link Array
  • Wideband Fixed Beam FlatIron and RF Virtuoso Arrays
  • Low observable and high power frequency selective surface (FSS) radomes
  • Custom transmit and receive RF chains/modules
  • Precision Guidance Kit GPS antenna
  • Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) RECAP Array
  • Global Hawk Tier 2+ FOPEN ultra-wide band UHF and VHF antenna arrays
  • B1B conformal radar warning receiver (RWR) antennas
  • F117 low observable GPS controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA)
  • Multifunction watercraft communications, navigation and identification (CNI) antennas
  • Tomahawk UHF/GPS Coupler Hat.

Paul joined BerrieHill in 2011 from Mission Research Corporation (MRC), where he founded and directed the company’s Lafayette Advanced Antennas office since 2000. He also worked at MRC from 1987-1995, working in the Electromagnetic Observables Sector in Dayton, Ohio, before joining Ball Aerospace’s Low Observables Group in Broomfield, Colorado.
